Roadside Assistance a MUST When Travelling

I cannot stress this enough-when you are traveling with your pop-up ANYWHERE you must get yourself roadside assistance or have some kind of a plan purchased from auto club. Murphy’ Law means you WILL run out of gas at 3am in the mountains of West Virginia because your husband thinks there is cheaper gas “around the corner” and at some point you will blow the tire on your pop up on a busy highway. If you have children it is just plain irresponsible to not have any kind of road side assistance. Please get some!

Trail Mix and Trail Snack Recipes for Hiking

When hiking its important to carry food that is compact and high in carbohydrate and protein- most trail mixes will fit the bill. Save $$$ by making yourself. here are some eay do-it-yourself recipes for making your own trail mix :

Hiker’s Trail Mix:
1 cup Granola
1/2 cup Peanuts
1/2 cup Raisins
1 cup cheerios or shreddies/ chex mix / any dry cereal
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips or mini m&m’s

Put in ziplock bag and shake

“Apple Pie” Trail Mix

This one is a family favourite- great for lunch boxes too!

1 egg white
1 T. water
1 lb bag of almonds/walnuts or pecan halves
1 cup white sugar
1/2 t. salt
1 t. cinnamon
dried apple rings, cut into quarters
Golden Grahams cereal or chex cereal

Beat egg white and water until frothy. Mix in sugar, salt and cinnamon. Add nuts and stir until well-coated. Spread on a large baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Bake at 200*F for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Remove from oven when the nuts are dry and toasted. When cool, mix with cereal and apple rings. Store in airtight container or ziploc bag.

Bike Rack Idea For Pop- Up Trailers and Tow Vehicles: A Dual Hitch!

Dual 2\
One of the bigger and certainly more expensive modification to your pop-up trailer can be adding something to haul your bikes. No one bike rack really solves all the problems of bringing bike while you camp. An on top of trailer bike rack/ track is EXPENSIVE our dealer wants to charge 1200.00 to out on our Fleetwood pop-up trailer.

We have a “cheap” rack- one that hooks with elaborate straps, etc on the back of our minivan - it has made quite few nicks in the paint- never looks secure to me and you can’t open the rear of minivan ( easily) when traveling and hooked up. Also a a pain to use. On top of car would just add drag and increase gas costs. We tend to go long distance and that is an issue for us. I thin I MAY have found solution- a dual hitch receiver Specs one the site say it holds 4000 lbs.

Basically you could put a standard 2″ bike rack rack into the upper hitch- not sure if I will still be able to open rear minivan door, tho.

Any feedback?? let me know :-)

What are the Best Campgrounds in Ontario?

For my money we really enjoy The Pinery Provincial Park . Next is Algonquin at a close second.
At the Pinery you look out over Lake Huron at the breathtaking sunset and the blue water and look at the white powder sand and you could almost think you were in Acapulco. I am not kidding- it is THAT nice.
Most lake water looks grey or steel blue but these water are warm and blue- exceptional swimming.
I know National Geographic List lake Huron as and The Pinery /Grand Ben/Bayfield as having the worlds best sunsets.

The staff is excellent and knowledgeable with lots of trials- some wheelchair/stroller accessible. Lots of guided hikes. Bike trails and more. I winner in every way.
Down side is it is REALLY hard to get in.

Another very nice park if you can get into it is Killbear. You pretty much have to book in spring.
Sandbanks also good one but I have not been in a few years.
