yeah, they're expensive but no campground compares! we've been going since we were kids in the 70s, spend our honeymoon there when we decided to get married, and go once a year at least.

We were at Ft. Wilderness from the first of January through the middle of March and had several opportunities to speak with cast members who 'appeared' to have some knowledge of the changes being made. Although no rate changes were mentioned, the following activities are definite:

1) Establishment of dog park near loop 300 (opened in mid January, 2008). Relaxing of "No Pet" areas, allowing all pet loops a walking route to the dog park.

2) The conversion of all camping sites to a 'cable TV' site. This will also permit all sites to have internet access via cable modem, although there was no definite answere regarding my question about the daily $9.95 rate. Wi-Fi access is currently not in the immediate future due to signal problems caused by the large number of trees throughout the campground.

3) The widening and lenghening of all sites in Loops 400 thru 1400, eliminating the sand pad at the back of the loops. This project was to start in June, 2008 and require 8 months to complete. Unfortunately, many trees will be removed to allow the widening and lengthening.

4) Extensive landscaping to restore the look of the campground based on the recent 'cleansing' of most underbrush and dead trees between the campsites.

These projects were described as the most extensive improvements to the campground since it was initially opened.

(As anyone who has stayed at Ft. Wilderness can verify, you often get different answers to the same question from different cast members.) However, since I talked to a cast member as he was measuring each site and making notes about trees, etc. I believe the site improvement project will actually take place.
